Creating an effective film that truly resonates and inspires action in its viewers is a collaborative journey. At Pika FilmsTM, we use a science-backed, Emmy-award-winning process that emphasizes communication and collaboration throughout. This ensures every story we tell is authentic, impactful, and beautifully crafted. Here’s an overview of how we work with you from start to finish.

Step 1. Pre-Production

Discovery and Story Finding

Our process begins with getting to know you and your story.

  • Storyfinding: Storyfinding begins right up front. Before our in-depth discovery interview(s), we initiate storyfinding by diving into the web to learn all we can about your organization. We also review any materials you share with us, including any marketing assets and videos you have already produced and wish to share.
  • Discovery Interviews: In-depth discovery interviews allow us to understand your vision, goals, and the essence of your story. 

The Three Pre-Production Deliverables

  • Keywords: Once discovery interviews are complete, we develop five keywords that will shape and inform every step of your project.
  • Character Briefs: Here we define the main character, or Heart, of your story. This person must capture the imagination of your viewer. Often this person is the individual that contacts us to have their story told. But sometimes, an even stronger character is the one that has been helped or impacted by the service or product provided. Occasionally, the best story shows the relationship between the Heart character and a Helper character, or even an Expert in the field. 
  • Storyboard: The storyboard lays out the key plot points of your film, such as the hook, conflict, initiation, journey, resolution, and jab. Important locations, objects, and situations will be noted in the storyboard as well.

Prior to production day, we arrange to walk through the location(s)  to finalize shooting and equipment decisions.

In post, our team meticulously transcribes the interviews and reviews the b-roll footage to select the best moments for your story. We then craft a compelling narrative, blending visuals, sound, and music to create a beautiful film that brings your story to life.

For example, depending on your goals for the film, the most effective option may be one or more of the following: posting it on your organization’s internal or external website, premiering it at a fundraising event, or sharing it on social channels.
  • Social Media Assets: We can also create shorter social media assets (such as testimonials) tailored for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. These assets help maintain engagement and keep your story alive in the minds of your audience.
